Hotel de Zon has always had a hotel and restaurant function,  the main reason for this is it’s strategic place next to the river “Vecht”. Long before this building was build, there was a lot of activity on this unique location.

 In 1680 Jan Michiels lived in what was than called “The Michielshuis”.  Later the people called this house “The Brouwerij” because of the hostel and brewery which were situated in this house. In 1799 they sold this place to Willem Arnold van Laer, the mayor from Ommen.

The family Van Laer have sold this house  with his barns and lime-trees to Jan Lindenhovius, he was a surgeon and obstetrician in Ommen. His widow Everdina Hartgers moved in 1873 to the city Ommen. She than sold the house and the barns to Willem Heuvers.

Willem Heuvers sold the building to Lambertus Koggel in 1880, he was married to Maria Bosch.  He was a host and build an extra livery stable. Koggel passed away in 1883. His widow Maria Bosch married again in 1885 with Johannes Rutgerus Marinus Jansen. He build in 1893 the present “Hotel de Zon. On the 10th of march 1893 he got licence to sell small liquor. Jansen passed away in 1905 and his stepson Gerhardus Spijkerbos became the owner of Hotel de Zon. After Spijkerbos passed away his widow remarried Johannes Lokin, who passed away in 1945.  The 2 brothers Hendricus and Hermannes Lokin took over. In 1976 Theodorus Bakker became the owner of Hotel de Zon.  He renovated the hotel. He build several extra hotelrooms and a roof between 2 of the buildings so it became one. In 1995 Ronald Alberto Nijhof took over De Zon.  He renovated the building and gave it his present atmosphere.
